Barber responded enthusiastically to the commission, quickly producing the first movement. The work was commissioned by Irving Berlin and Richard Rodgers for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the League of Composers, a society aimed at promoting new American classical music, and was to be premiered by Vladimir Horowitz. This is a non-official list for the purpose of giving direction and motivation to a student trying to learn on their own.Samuel Barber’s only sonata for the piano, the Piano Sonata in E-flat minor was composed during 1947-49. This very summarized list of pieces from pre-Grade 1 up to ARCT(grade 11) can act as a self learning guide to give you direction to help you in your piano journey! Please keep in mind that this list uses a Canadian music grading system which isn't the same in all places all over the world. Use this diagram as a template to divide up your time for daily practices. While practicing, do everything to the best of your ability, make each little thing a challenge or "contest with yourself". Also, the more you practice the better you'll get and the more you will want to spend time at the piano. The intial goal is to create a habit of practicing, and then let your habit help keep you on track. Make sure to schedule your practice time like an appointment with a doctor or something similar, and do not miss your practice appointments. You can adjust the practice time once you have a better idea of how quickly you're progressing. Give yourself a little more time then you need and start from there. Don't worry if you don't know how much practice time you'll need yet. Once you've answered those questions, next take a guess on how much daily practice will be required to achieve your goals and then create a practice schedule from it.
